‘Music – A Bridge Over Troubled Waters’ with singer-songwriter Robbie O’Connell.
Music is a universal language that transcends all barriers. It is an unassailable platform where Truth and Love are safe. During our darkest days, it gave us leave to clap our hands and to dance together. Music is ‘A Bridge Over Troubled Waters’.
Truth and Reconciliation Platform, or TaRP as it’s commonly called, invited artists to dedicate a song or a piece of music to victims of the conflict on the island of Ireland, frequently referred to as ‘The Troubles’, or to an event or a memory that, for them, holds a particular poignancy.
What follows is a response to our invitation from the renowned singer-songwriter, Robbie O’Connell, who toured for twenty years with his uncles, The Clancy Brothers, and Tommy Makem and, for a further ten years, with Tommy Makem and Liam Clancy among many other legendary artists. Robbie, from Carrick on Suir, County Tipperary, also features on Bob Dylan’s 25th Anniversary Concert and in the iconic documentary ‘Bringing It All Back Home’. Robbie O’Connell really is ‘Folk Royalty’.
‘Speaking for Myself’ and ‘Music – A Bridge Over Troubled Waters’ are Truth and Reconciliation Platform educational projects, hosted by The Miami Showband Peace Centre Online and assisted by the consultant and coach, Tracy Dempsey. The SfM series is assisted by Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
